SOMERSET & DORSET RAILWAY LINKS

The Mangotsfield to Bath branch (part of which is now being restored as the Avon Valley Railway) has an inextricable link with the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway, sharing as it does the Georgian terminus of Bath Green Park - the AVR is also the only preserved railway in the country to be on the former route of the famous 'Pines Express'.  The S&DJR is also universally adored by railway enthusiasts (including your webmaster) and therefore I have no hesitation in recommending the following 'Swift and Delightful' links.

THE SOMERSET & DORSET RAILWAY
Perhaps the most detailed site on the S & D, with pages and pages of history, operation, description of the line, and much more.

THE SOMERSET & DORSET JOINT RAILWAY AFTER CLOSURE
A selection of (mainly) black & white photographs of the Somerset & Dorset, taken in 1972 and 1982, showing the desolation that exists of this once proud railway.

THE SOMERSET & DORSET RAILWAY TRUST OFFICIAL SITE
Home of the S & D Museum at Washford on the West Somerset Railway, this site has news of what's happening at the station, plus other details of the S&DRT.

THE SOMERSET & DORSET RAILWAY (HERITAGE TRUST) OFFICIAL SITE
A site dedicated to the work going on at Midsomer Norton Station, including a good selection of photographs of the station in both BR days and present times.

SHILLINGSTONE STATION PROJECT
Another former S & D station is also being restored.

SOMERSET & DORSET JOINT RAILWAY
Photo's and information on Midsomer Norton and the Pines Express.

1935 MAPS OF THE ROUTE OF THE RAILWAY
Being a Dorsetshire site, the maps only cover the southern half of the Somerset and Dorset Railway.

SOMERSET & DORSET - SEARCHING FOR A LOST LINE
A look at what now remains of the northern section of the S & D, from Bath to Evercreech Junction.

LANTERN FILMS
Lantern Films produce a number of transport orientated videos, and on their web site they have still pictures from a trip made over the line between Bristol and Bath then over the S & D to Evercreech Junction in the final years.
